Dr. JOHAR ALI

PIONEER IN THE FIELD OF GENOMICS

Dr. Ali has over 25 years of experience in the field of genomics and bioinformatics. He has been part of the international Human Genome Project that was a landmark in the history of  Biotechnology. Dr. Ali has published in Nature, Science and various other peer-reviewed international journals. Dr. Ali earned his M.S. and PhD from the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. He is a pioneer in the field of genomics and participated in the historic Human Genome Project while serving in Washington University, USA. Dr. Ali was also part of the C. Elegans genome project. After his work at the University of Washington, USA, he was offered a job at BC Cancer Agency Genome Sciences Centre, Vancouver, BC, Canada as a Bioinformatics Group leader.  After serving for 3 years in Vancouver Canada, he moved on to set up the Genomics Centre at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) as a Team Leader in Toronto, Canada. He then worked in the industry for a few years before moving to Pakistan to establish the Center for Genome Sciences at the Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) in Peshawar the largest private sector hospital in KP-Pakistan. Dr. Ali served Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Islamabad Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) as a full time Member for 3 years. Dr. Ali is also serving as a technical expert on the Prime Ministers of Pakistan task force, technical advisory board of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to devise policy, review cases of GMO and field trial decisions, holding dialogues on burning issues across the country, leading and setting up the directions of research across the country, and strengthening the academia-industry linkage by reviewing and funding research projects proposals. Dr. Ali has International network of research collaborations including Canada, USA, China, Malaysia, and South Korea among others. Dr. Ali is leading the development of biotechnology sector in Pakistan. Dr. Ali has earned teaching and research excellence awards while at the University of Missouri Columbia, USA.  Dr. Ali was also recognized for his leadership by the city of Detroit, Michigan, USA.

Presently Dr. Johar Ali is serving as Vice Chancellor UIT University Karachi.
